Install and update TenuVault
Download, install, update and uninstall TenuVault on Windows and macOS.
Download TenuVault from the releases page on GitHub and install it like any other desktop app. Updates then arrive in the background.
Download
Section titled “Download”Open the TenuVault releases page and download the latest release for your computer.

Ignore the .blockmap and .yml files. The updater uses them.

Nightly builds are produced from every change that passes the automated checks. A nightly install keeps updating to newer nightlies; a stable install only updates to newer stable releases.
Install
Section titled “Install”- Run the
.exeyou downloaded. - Choose whether to install for yourself only or for all users of this computer, and optionally change the installation folder.
- Finish the installer. It creates a desktop shortcut and a Start menu entry.
Windows builds are code signed with Azure Trusted Signing.
To install silently on many computers, use the MSI. See Deploy TenuVault in your organization.
- Open the
.dmgyou downloaded. - Drag TenuVault onto the Applications folder in the window that opens.
- Eject the disk image and start TenuVault from Applications or Launchpad.
If you downloaded the .zip, unzip it and move TenuVault to Applications.
macOS builds are signed and notarized by Apple, so Gatekeeper opens them without extra steps.
TenuVault runs one instance at a time. Starting it again brings the existing window to the front.
Updates
Section titled “Updates”TenuVault keeps itself up to date:
- It checks for a new version 15 seconds after it starts, then every 6 hours.
- When a new version is available, it downloads it in the background.
- A banner appears: TenuVault <version> is ready. It installs the next time TenuVault restarts. Select Restart now to install it immediately, or let it install the next time you quit TenuVault.
You can also check manually in Settings > Updates with Check now, and turn automatic updates off with Download and install updates automatically. See Settings reference.
Updates never install an older version. To move from nightly to stable, install the stable release manually once it is newer than your nightly build; it then follows the stable channel.
Uninstall
Section titled “Uninstall”Before you uninstall, open Settings > Background and retention and select Remove background launch if it is installed, so the operating system stops trying to start TenuVault.
Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps in Windows, find TenuVault and select Uninstall.
Quit TenuVault from its menu bar icon, then move TenuVault from Applications to the Trash.
Uninstalling does not delete your backups. Backups on this device stay in their folder (by default Documents/TenuVault Backups), and Azure backups stay in your storage account. To read them after a reinstall or on another computer, you need your recovery key.
